Franklin Middle School - Teaching Pool

Franklin Middle School is scheduled to undergo major interior renovations to its existing swimming pool as outlined below.

October 3, 2019: The project is substantially complete and is in the commissioning and close-out phase. The project should be closed out by the end of October 2019.

August 15, 2019: The project is substantially complete and is in the commissioning and close-out phase. The project should be closed out by the end of August 2019.

July 16, 2019: All outstanding issues have been resolved. The pool can now be used for instructional purposes. 

February 21, 2019:  Work is substantially complete.

November 21, 2018: Construction is ongoing and on track.

October 15, 2018: Demolition is substantially complete. Pool construction is scheduled for completion by end of year 2018.

July 19, 2018: Construction began at the end of June with demolition work, which will continue for the next 3-5 weeks.


  • Franklin Middle School swimming pool is an existing pool which has been unused for nearly 15 years. Once the pool is re-opened, it will be utilized as a five (5) lane teaching pool and for swim team practice. 
  • Major renovation includes significant mechanical, plumbing, architectural and accessibility requirements. Pool area finishes, acoustics, lighting, air and water quality, pool heating, HVAC-Natatorium, and related electrical components, pool systems and accessories will be upgraded.
  • Minor exterior improvement work will also be done, primarily as it relates to improved visibility and approach from the parking lot to the entry.
  • Architectural and Design Finish improvements include a refinished pool deck, ceramic tile, new pool lighting, ceiling finish, code compliant guard rails/railings, ships ladder access to pool, modified openings at floor slab for headroom for routine maintenance repairs, new windows, and improved acoustics and signage.
  • Plumbing replacement including piping, drains, and new fixtures will be done based on regulatory needs. HVAC scope includes removal and replacement of the pool AHU (air handling unit), an added Natatorium-AHU to the existing mechanical room, and associated duct work, piping, and accessories. A condensing boiler for summer reheat, pool water heating, and dehumidification is also included in the work.  
  • Aquatic improvements include complete refurbishment and renewal, including existing conditions testing/analysis, demolishing of existing deficient fixtures and finishes, adding new safety equipment including an ADA compliant lift, re-grouting of pool, retrofit pool lighting fixtures, add new LED lighting, added disinfection system and ultra-violent web based pool controller, pool cleaning equipment.
