Minneapolis Public Schools is pleased to announce that construction will soon begin on the new building that will house its Adult Education and Transition Plus programs; see site plan.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE (subject to change)

  • June 15, 2017: Barriers and fencing start to go up on certain streets and sidewalks for duration of the project (1.5 years)

  • End of June: Excavation began

  • August: Footing installation began followed by the start of general construction
  • December Updates: The project is moving ahead on schedule about 30% complete now.  The foundatioins are done, concrete floors are poured in the basement ramp, first and second floors.  The building structural steel frame is complete, so the building perimeter soil can be backfilled and shoring removed.  In the weeks ahead, expect to see interior steel wall framing and exterior walls take shape.  Much of this will be behind poly enclosures to protect the workers and materials from the elements.  The interior mechanical and electrical systems will follow soon behind wall construction.  Major underground utilities are connected from the street into the building now.
  • January Updates:  The project is moving ahead on schedule about 35% complete now.  The foundations are done, concrete floors are poured in the basement ramp, and all four floors.  The building structural steel frame is complete, the building perimeter soil has been backfilled and shoring removed. In the weeks ahead, expect to see interior steel wall framing and exterior walls take shape, and brick installation will begin.  Much of this will be behind poly enclosures to protect the workers and materials from the elements.  The interior mechanical and electrical systems are underway.  Major underground utilities are connected from the street into the building.  
  • Fall 2018: Construction completed; building opens

ALTERNATE VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN ROUTES

As with any project of this scale, for public safety, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be rerouted during construction. Alternate driving and walking routes during construction are outlined in the map below; click on the image for a larger view.
